Night Terrors

by Neve

Maybe it was the staring moon scrutinizing my every flaw
Maybe it was the dark abyss that devoured the sun above
Maybe it was the slow sink of the daylight, or maybe
It was the emptiness
Just you and me
Alone in a sea of ebony nothingness.
Maybe it was the silence;
The neglected joy and prosperity of the beacon in the sky;
So blue, bathing in the suns mirror
So black, dimly lit by the sinister moon.
Maybe it was the fear
Don’t leave me, I said
I won’t, you said
That’s all I needed to hear, then
I found peace in the still chaos
I found calm in the turmoil of my mind
With you I found beauty in the ugly dark
With you I found light where before there was only shadows.
Out of the dusk came the stars, twinkling
Like a thousand diamonds, a million
Tiny lights in the vastness of the glorious atmosphere.
Maybe it was the staring moon scrutinizing my every flaw
Maybe it was the dark abyss that devoured the sun above
Maybe it was the slow sink of the sun, but maybe
I can grow fond of the Night.
