Write on!

The Purple Pheonix is on Chapter 3 of The Group and has written 1,280 words! Follow this ongoing adventure by clicking on the link. (Go ahead. I know you’ll like it.)

He’s also started a science fiction story in Group projects. Anyone can jump in and add to stories posted there. Click here and scroll down to read what he’s written. You can continue where he left off by selecting the small “reply” under his beginning dialogue. For complete instructions on how to add to Group projects, click here.

Excellent work, Purple Pheonix. Write on!

Two new submissions

The Purple Pheonix has written more of The Group AND he’s written a poem, entitled Schools of Magic (the Gathering). This is the site’s very first poem and it’s awesome!

Update on the Purple Pheonix’s ongoing story

WOOT! The Purple Pheonix has finished Chapter 1. Like all good chapter endings, it makes you want to read Chapter 2 (which is hopefully coming soon, right, Purple Pheonix?) He’s also decided on the title, The Group. He’s been working hard and often, so follow the link and leave him a comment!

An ongoing story

The Purple Pheonix is working on a long story that he’ll be posting under Share your work. Since he doesn’t have a title yet, you can get to the story here: Purple Pheonix’s Story. He plans to add installments every two or three days, so come back often to see what happens next.

Cool off!

If the summer’s heat is beating you up, read Allen’s latest post, “Blizzard of 1880.” This review of The Long Winter will help you remember that yes, summer is the best season, no matter how hot it gets!

Want to make a point? Write a persuasive essay.

If you’d like to explain how you feel about something or if you want to convince others to feel the same way, try writing a persuasive essay.  First, make sure readers understand your point by stating your opinion right away. Then use related information or facts to support why you feel this way.

To see a well-organized persuasive essay, check out “My Vote“. Allen C. tells us what he would have done in the very first sentence. He uses the rest of the essay to explain why he would have done it.

The same, but different

When a story first enters your head, try to write down everything that occurs to you, even if you have to scribble. Stories and the ideas behind them can be very slippery and come and go very fast. You want to capture everything you can before you forget (especially if you’re in a noisy room). It won’t be perfect, but that’s okay. You can always go back and polish it after you get it down on paper.

That’s what Allen C. and his mom did in the story, “The Same, but Different.” The first version is what writers call the rough draft and it’s how the story first occurred to Allen. The second version shows the changes Allen made to the story after he discussed it with his mom. See if you can spot the changes and figure out why he decided to make them. Do you agree with the changes? Let us know by leaving a reply under Allen’s story.

Thanks to Allen and his mom for sharing both versions. It’s a cool look into the many changes a story usually goes through before readers ever see it.

Puppies and wolves

Want to read about lots of puppies making lots of trouble? Read Arielle’s The Tale of Ten Puppies. It made me laugh. It also made me glad they don’t live in my house!

Also, the Purple Phoenix created a great wolf character. He’s looking for suggestions for the perfect name. Look in the “comments” under the first blue welcome box on this page to see his description of the wolf and to give him your suggestions.

More additions and congratulations!
